This free APPX package — HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer — lets you install the necessary codecs without going through the Microsoft Store, giving you smoother playback, better video quality, and smaller file sizes on your PC.
These extensions also let you encode HEVC content on devices that lack a dedicated hardware video encoder, using the H.265 (x265) / MPEG-H Part 2 compression standard. How to Install

  • Download the .appxbundle file to your device.
  • Locate the downloaded file, then either:
  • Double-click it to open with Microsoft Store and follow the installation prompts, or
  • Right-click it, select Install, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once installation completes, HEVC playback will be enabled system-wide.

Note: HEVC Video Extensions is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Make sure to match the version to your system architecture — use the 64-bit package if you’re running 64-bit Windows.
